Let me start by saying that this is my personal opinion of the state of the Ubuntu community.
What the hell is going on with the Ubuntu community? Specifically on irc, the main reason I have been using Ubuntu for the past 4 years is the awesome irc, forum, wiki, launchpad support that has always been available freely and with a smile.
I have noticed in the past few months since I have been back on irc (took a little break) that there are more and more people in the irc channels especially that seem bent on acting like jerks. Responding to questions with "Google it". Might as well say RTFM!
There has also been a lot of aggressive people, impatient people and users who are down right rude to each other.
I have to admit. I am not immune to this behavior. I had to remove myself from #ubuntu earlier this morning because I responded to a user with "F U" after he told me that if I don't know the answer to a question I should not answer. He was partly right...
The OPS on IRC do an awesome job but they can't be online 24/7. Seems to me they have to spend more time baby sitting then they do actually supporting users.
I would like to see some sort of "Ubuntu Irc Code of Conduct" that a user has to sign before he/she is granted privileges to speak in the channel. Perhaps a link to the IRC guidelines wiki page with instructions to /msg bot I accept. This should be a one time thing but I believe that forcing a user to read about the proper way to act in a public forum and the proper way to ask a question e.g !enter !patience !attitude and so on would greatly benefit the community and those of us who try to help.
There will always be those users who just have to act like jerks. I guess they feel better when making other people feel bad. To them I say "I am, because you are."
Another thing. Windows, not winblows, windoze,M$ or any other misspelling. Every time a GNU/Linux user misspells it makes you look like a hater. You want people to take you serious and your choice of OS serious then don't talk down to them. You want to convert them? Tell them about all the things they can do with Linux and not all the things they can't do with Windows.
Ubuntu is not the best OS, it is the best OS for me.
